Hunde-Demenz: Symptome und Behandlung
Genau wie bei Ihnen altert und verschleißt das Gehirn Ihres Hundes – genauso wie der Rest seines Körpers.
Aber bei einigen Hunden verschleißt das Gehirn schneller als bei anderen.
Dies führt zu einer Palette von Symptomen, die wir als kognitive Dysfunktion beim Hund (Canine Cognitive Dysfunction, CCD) oder einfach Hunde-Demenz bezeichnen.
Die degenerativen Veränderungen im Gehirngewebe, die Demenz bei Hunden verursachen, sind nicht gut verstanden.
Wir wissen jedoch, dass die Anzahl der Nervenzellen mit dem Alter der Hunde abnimmt.
Eine Ansammlung von neurotoxischen Ablagerungen im Gehirn könnte ein mitwirkender Faktor sein.
Hohe Konzentrationen freier Radikale scheinen auch zu einem Rückgang der kognitiven Funktion zu führen.
Wie häufig ist Hunde-Demenz … und wie wissen Sie, ob Ihr Hund betroffen ist?
Wie häufig ist Hunde-Demenz?
Die kognitive Dysfunktion beim Hund ist häufiger, als die meisten Hundebesitzer realisieren!
In einer Studie zeigten etwa 50% der Hunde über 11 Jahren mindestens ein Anzeichen von CCD.
Eine andere Studie zeigte, dass 68% der Hunde zwischen 15 und 16 Jahren mindestens ein Anzeichen von CCD zeigen können.
Eine weitere wichtige Sache ist zu beachten, dass CCD eine fortschreitende Krankheit ist.
Mehr als die Hälfte der Hunde mit mindestens einem klinischen Anzeichen wird innerhalb von 12 Monaten weitere Symptome entwickeln.
Je älter Ihr Hund ist, desto wahrscheinlicher ist es, dass er CCD entwickelt.
Das gesagt, große Hunderassen altern schneller und können CCD bereits im Alter von 5 bis 7 Jahren entwickeln.
Es scheint auch, dass kastrierte Hunde ein leicht erhöhtes Risiko haben.
Symptome von Hunde-Demenz
Demenz bei Hunden kann leicht übersehen werden, aus einigen Gründen:
Demenz entwickelt sich sehr langsam. Die Symptome treten so langsam auf, dass sie einfach Teil des Normalen zu sein scheinen.
Es gibt den Mythos, dass es normal ist, dass alte Hunde ein wenig seltsam werden.
Viele Menschen betrachten es als einen ’normalen‘ Teil des Alterungsprozesses (es ist es nicht).
Wie können Sie also feststellen, ob Ihr Hund Demenz hat?
Wir werden das Akronym „DISSA“ verwenden, um die häufigsten Symptome von Demenz bei Hunden zu betrachten.
D – Desorientierung
Dies kann das Starren ins Leere oder das Verirren in vertrauten Umgebungen umfassen.
Ihr Hund kann den Weg rein und raus aus dem Haus nicht mehr finden oder in Ecken oder unter Tischen stecken bleiben.
Ihr alter Freund mag die ganze Zeit verwirrt erscheinen. Einige Hunde vergessen, dass Sie sie gefüttert haben.
Sie können auch eine Zunahme von Angst beobachten, ausgelöst durch verschiedene Faktoren.
Er kann anfangen, grundlos zu bellen. Kontinuierliches Umherwandern ist ein weiteres häufiges Symptom.
I – Veränderungen in der Interaktion

Sie bellen oft nachts ohne erkennbaren Grund.
Manchmal schlafen sie den ganzen Tag und sind die ganze Nacht wach und möchten Ihre Aufmerksamkeit.
S – Nicht mehr stubenrein
Ihr Hund kann vergessen, wie er sich stubenrein verhält, und im Haus sein Geschäft verrichten.
Dies kann auch passieren, weil er überhaupt nicht mehr nach draußen finden kann oder zu spät.
Sie können auch eine fehlende Reaktion auf Befehle und die Unfähigkeit, Aufgaben auszuführen, die er früher problemlos erledigen konnte, beobachten.
A – Reduzierte Aktivitätsniveaus
Ihr alter Freund möchte vielleicht überhaupt nicht mehr viel tun (manchmal nicht einmal essen).
Auf der anderen Seite werden Sie wahrscheinlich rastloses Verhalten mit kontinuierlichem Umherwandern oder ziellosem Umherirren sehen.
Einige Hunde entwickeln zwanghaftes Verhalten wie das Lecken von Böden.
Wie man Demenz bei Hunden verhindert
Ja, Demenz bei Hunden ist eine fortschreitende, degenerative Krankheit.
Sie verschlimmert sich im Laufe der Zeit.

Rohfütterung ist in der Regel am besten, aber einige ältere Hunde tun sich besser mit einer selbst zubereiteten Diät, wenn ihre Verdauungsorgane schwächer sind.
Ergänzungen für die natürliche Behandlung von Hunde-Demenz
Sie sollten auch in Erwägung ziehen, einige (oder alle) der folgenden Ergänzungen hinzuzufügen:
